Meeting Attendees: Watch Out for This Room-Booking Scam
Hotel-room poachers are third-party housing companies that profit by booking meeting attendees and exhibitors outside the official housing block. These pirates pose as the official purveyor of a block of hotel rooms for a meeting or use various tactics to convince meeting attendees to make their reservations through an unofficial company, including using the association branding. It is not a new problem, but it is a growing concern among events like ours. In some cases, attendees are booked at a lower-tier hotel far from the event location; in others, they arrive at their hotel to discover their cards have been charged but there are no reservations in their names. Associations may also end up paying costly attrition fees when a reserved block of rooms is not used.
APEX will NOT call for credit card details to book hotel rooms on members’ behalf.
Please make sure to only book with the APEX/IFSA Global EXPO host hotel. Please use links that are received directly from us or throughout the APEX/IFSA Global EXPO website. If there is any question as to if a link or email received is legitimate please share with APEX staff at staff@apex.aero and we will be happy to confirm for you.
